Rotting Trim and Woodwork?

Updated: May 10, 2020

There is one reason wood trim rots - moisture. Because exterior paint and caulking eventually dry out (moisture evaporating), water eventually seeps into the wood. Read more below on how to maintain your home's trim work.

It's important to reseal all the caulking around your home's exterior trim every two years. That's right, every two years! By doing this, you will ensure that moisture does not soak in and begin breaking down the wood and possibly get into your home. This Brookeville home's bay window's wood work was completely removed and replaced because the wood had not been re-caulked or painted in over 10 years! It required three tubes of caulk to seal each piece of trim you see here.

What can be done to prevent this?

Every two years Simply Home Maintenance will:

  1. Inspect and clean your home's trim to remove any dirt and mildew buildup

  2. Repair or replace any rotted wood

  3. Caulk, prime, and paint as required

Not only will your home's trim work remain intact; it will continue to enhance the look of your home as intended.
